    Lübbenau is a town with a historic city center and through his central situation more than perfect for a stay in in the Spreewald and in Brandenburg.

    Close your eyes and imagine a warm summer evening. By your side your loved one, in your hands a glass of champagne. You experience the wonderful nature while the punt gently and quietly glides by. A ferryman steers the punt with a long oar (this activity in German is called "staken") through the waterway network of the biosphere reserve Spreewald.

    This desire doesn't have to be a dream. Lübbenau – located in the Spreewald (Spree Woods) – offers this charming kind of travel, in summer and also in winter. The Spreewald is situated about 100 km southeast of Berlin and a biosphere reserve by UNESCO since 1991. Lübbenau is the principial town of the area.

    A variety of harbours are offering the punt tours in Lübbenau. There's something for every taste, for example nostalgia tours, winter punt tours, angling tours, grill and picnic tours, photo tours and many more. Ferrymen gladly fulfill individual wishes of guests.

    Do you like penguins? The 'Spreewelten-Bad' (spree worlds bath) offers swim with penguins, a Europe-wide unique attraction. Only separated by a window you can swim just next to them. Zoo keepers feed the penguins daily at 11 am and 3:30 pm. You have the opportunity to watch and to ask all kinds of questions. In addition, there is a sauna world with 14 saunas – each of them has a different theme and aroma. The 'Spreewelten-Bad' in Lübbenau is the ideal place for a relaxing day or evening.

    Local speciality

    Lübbenau is not only called "the city of punts", but also "the city of pickles". The moist humus-rich soils and the climate in the Spreewald forest support the growth of cucumbers. The special taste of the 'Spreewald Gurken' results from their processing form and the accompanying spices. Cucumber fields can be found in the entire Spreewald.

    Sightseeing

    Lübbenau offers different historic buildings and museums (for example Germany's only cucumbers museum). Interesting city tours are also offered in English. The castle which set in a park, including an orangerie with a cafe and a hotel.

    Christmas Market

    With a punt to the Christmas market? In Lübbenau, this is possible. Wrapped in a snug cover, with a warming glass of mulled wine in your hand, this winter boat ride offers a very special magic.

    Other

    From April to October the post in Lübbenau is delivered up to the village of Lehde on the waterway. The mailmen use a yellow punt without engine. As you can imagine, it's a very strenuous job, but nature compensates with a great environment.
