    How to Get There?


      Xanten is accessible via Duisburg Hbf (Duisburg main station). From there, drives the 'NordWestBahn' (a regional train) and brings you directly to the railway station of Xanten, continue to the Hay hotel Moerenhof by taxi.

      The nearest airport to Xanten is Dusseldorf (journey time by car 45 minutes). Or take the 'eurobahn' to Duisburg and from there the 'NordWestBahn' to Xanten (journey time 1 hour). The airport Weeze (Ryanair hub) is the second airport near Xanten (journey time by car 30 minutes, by train 1,5 h).

    Nature exploring

    The 'Bislicher Insel' (Bislicher Island) is one of the few still existing floodplain landscapes in Germany. 20,000-30,000 arctic geese spend the winter here. It is a beautifil place for nature- and animal lovers. One can discover beaver, newts, storks, bats, nightingales, hawks and many more. The information centre 'NaturForum' offers interesting excursions and activities.


    The city of Xanten is well-known for the 'Archäologischen Park' (Archaeological Park), one of the largest archaeological open air museums in the world. The romans are present wherever one goes in Xanten. If you are interested in history and culture you will love Xanten. Its medieval city centre – especially the Xanten Kathedral (Xantener Dom) – is a real gem.


    The 'Xantener Sommerfestspiele' (Xanten summer festivals) are a big classical music festival lasting two weeks every summer and a very special highlight für music lovers. The unusual scenery of the Xanten amphitheatre is a wonderful place for operas, operettas or ballet performances like Giuseppe Verdi's 'Aida', Franz Lehárs 'Der Zarewitsch' or Tchaikovsky's 'Schwanensee' (swan lake).


    The region of Xanten is one of the most beautiful lower Rhine bike regions in the country and offers multifaceted options for leisure and recuperation. Beautiful cycle paths along the 'Xantener Seenplatte' (Xanten lake land), provide cyclists the ideal conditions for hiking on two wheels. Bicycles can be borrowed at the train station.
