      The Dessau Hauptbahnhof is a railway junction with lines to Magdeburg, Potsdam (Berlin), Wittenberg, Bitterfeld (Leipzig and Halle) and Cöthen. There are regional transport connections in those directions in one-to two-hour intervals.

      The A9 (Berlin-Munich) passes approximately 5 km east past Dessau. From the south, take the exit Dessau-south, north of the Dessau-Ost exit, or (scenic), exit Vockerode. Furthermore, the main road leading 184 and 185 by Dessau.

      Leipzig/ Halle Airport is about 50 kilometers south. The airport is served by all major domestic airports as well as some cities in Europe on scheduled flights. From there in about 45 minutes or take the train to Dessau reached by car via the A 9 in about 90min.

    Dessau-Roßlau – beautiful mixture of nature and history. it is considered the Mecca of modern architecture and holds the wold largest collection of 1920's bauhaus structures.

    Dessau is a mecca for modern achritecture, specially for Bauhaus junkies , Dessau hits the jackpot. Nowhere else in the world will you find a greater concentration of original1920s Bauhaus structures than in this city on the Elbe River. Dessau was the home of the most influential design school of the 20th century during it´s most creative period from 1925 to 1932.

    You could just stop off and see all major Bauhaus sights in a course of a day, or stay longer to explore the cities picturesque parks. Dessau and surrounds are home to the Gartenreich Dessau-Wörlitz, one of the finest ensembles in Germany. The park Garden Kingdom reflects the vision of Prince Leopold III Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau (1740–1817), whose many reforms were aimed at fostering a harmonious interaction of man and nature.

    His Garden Kingdom lies at the heart of a landscape characterised by rivers, woodland and expansive meadows. Its palaces, gardens, treelined avenues and smaller buildings blend in with the nature that surrounds them, giving the whole area the feel of infinite parklands.

    On the outskirts of Dessau are the neo-classical Luisium Palace with its English gardens, the rococo ensemble of Mosigkau Palace, Großkühnau Country Park and Georgium Palace, home to the House of Anhalt’s picture gallery. Together with the baroque ensemble of the town, palace and park of Oranienbaum and Wörlitz Park, the most important part of the Garden Kingdom, these form a remarkable World Heritage.

    Sightseeing

    The leading Bauhaus sights are all in walking distance, west of the Hauptbahnhof. The town center lies southeast about 15 min walk away. The beautiful gardens and parks are free and can be roamed during daylight hours. Take your sweet time to saunter among this mosaic path, hedges and follies.

    Cycling

    Dessau is a destination for active holiday makers, enjoy a nice day out on the Elbe Cycle Route. And discover the beautiful landscape by bike.

    Sailing & Canoeing

    There are 45min gondola tours (around 7Euro, limited or no service Nov-Mar) plying the lake, departing when eight people or more gather the dock of Wörlitzer See.
