    Why Go There?

Caputh is a real cultural highlight- come and explore the summer house of Albert Einstein. According to him, his most beautiful summers were spent here.

Caputh is located right next to one of the most beautiful lakes in Brandenburg - the Schwielowsee. The great German author Theodor Fontane once said the Schwielowsee is a wide, sunny lake and presents itself in a serene and kind way- and he was absolutely right.

The small village of Caputh is an ideal getaway for those who love nature. But for a taste of the city, in just 40 minutes you can also stand next to the gates of Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. The river Havel flows from the nearby city of Potsdam, through the „Caputher Gemünde”, finally reaching its destination in the Schwielowsee.

From the 16th century, the beautiful Caputh Castle is the only preserved early-Baroque building in the Potsdam area. King Frederick William I used the castle for occasional hunting stays. The beautiful tiles were added in 1720, leaving 7,500 Dutch faience tiles to admire in the basement of the house.

Campsites, hiking trails and bike paths are very well developed in Caputh, and they offer a great variety of activities. If you are lucky enough to visit during their annual summer ferry festival, you can watch national and international waterskiing champions show off their amazing skills. A variety of music festivals, cultural forums and local artists' exhibitions make this area a great place to enjoy the arts as well.
