    How to Get There?


      From Dresden you take the S1 (suburban railway) or the EC (Eurocity) to Bad Schandau directly.

      You take the A17 in direction to Prag and exit at Pirna. From there you drive in direction to Bad Schandau and further to the area Saxon Switzerland.

    The Saxon Switzerland National Park offers ideal opportunities to explore and experience nature and landscape. You can recover actively, admire a lot or simply find peace.

    The Saxon Switzerland has a high number of very different habitats, which stand in an interplay with each other.

    They are different ways how you can explore these various living spaces. They have a 400km long network of hiking trails, which lead you to the most beautiful destinations and spectacular panoramic views. If you want to explore the national park with bicycle, you have 50km long bikeways in all.

    For all who loves adventures, the park offers 755 climbing summits and 12.623 climbing paths.

    Another highlight are the 9 historical paddle steamers, with which you can drive on the Elbe. The Saxon Steam Navigation is the oldest and the largest paddle steamer fleet in the world.

    There is a lot to see and to do in the Saxon Switzerland National Park and worth to visit it!!!

    The highest mountain in the Saxon Switzerland is the Winterberg, with a hight of 556m. From there you have a beautiful view on the national park. You can find a national park- center, where you can gather information about the Saxon Switzerland.

    Local speciality

    In the footsteps of medieval rock castles... In the Elbe Sandstone Mountains you can find numerous traces and remains of medieval rock castles. Explore the old remains of the walls or traces in the rocks of these castles.

    Hidden gems

    Visit the amazing fortress Königstein!!! It is located in the midst of the rocky landscape of the Saxon Switzerland in a height of 247m. It is one of the biggest mountain fortress in Europe and it's the last fortress in Germany, which is still fully intact. It's really worth visiting.
