    Why Go There?

The hiking trail 'Traumpfad Eltzer Burgpanorama' (Eltz Castle Panorama Trail) was opted in 2013 again for Germany's most beautiful hiking trail – for the 3rd time after 2008 and 2011.

Starting at the 'Dorfgemeinschaftshaus' in the center of the small village Wierschem enjoy the astonishing panorama of the Moselle plateau immediately. After the initial point the trail is ascending continuously in the first instance, showing natural footpaths, and the hiker will be rewarded with the wild and deep-cut Eltzbach valley and an amazing view to Pyrmont Castle (Burg Pyrmont).

The trail leads through the Eltz forest, crossing the Eltzbach (a little creek which meanders in numerous bends), and after that the path joins the 'Moselhöhenweg' (Moselle Heights track). Finally this part of the track ends on a hill, and from here the hiker has a breathtaking view to the "Fairy Tale Eltz Castle" (Burg Eltz) which is one of the most beautiful castles in Germany, and which can be entered by using a massive stone bridge. Here, hikers should take a break and put themselves back in the middle ages.

After Eltz Castle the trail continues in beautiful nature environment, and along the Eltzbach. The Ringelsteiner Mühle (Ringelstein Mill) is a hotel and restaurant/cafeteria which invites the hiker for another break. Take a little snack her or a piece of cake with a cup of coffee or two.

Afterwards, the track is running steeply uphill, but the reward is another breathtaking view over the Moselle plateau. The last part is easier and not very steep. Alltogether the trail is 12.6 km long and can be hiked comfortably during 4 hours. The difficulty is intermediate, not too heavy; hence it's convenient even for families with kids. The hiker gains a height of approximately 400 meters during the track.

Conclusion: the Eltz Castle Panorama Trail (Traumpfad Eltzer Burgpanorama) deserves its award being Germany's most beautiful hiking trail for sure!
