The Earl's castle from the Late Middle Age is a castle built on a hill above Diez. Nowadays it's used as a youth hostel. Did you ever want to feel like a castle lord? Then this is the right place for you.

The small town Diez is a real treasure with its winding alleys and half-timbered buildings. But the castle throning high above the town is the icing on the cake. Glancing from one of the windows down to the town and the river Lahn is really priceless!

The Earl's Castle has had a long changeful history. Temporarily it was even used as a jail! In the contemporary youth hostel there are numerous proofs about this to be found.

The castle was rebuilt extensively a couple of years ago. Anyone who wants to rest for the night here has to be a member of the German Youth Hostel Association / National Association for Youth Hiking and Youth Hostels e.V.

Additionally there's a museum of local history inside the castle with interesting exhibitions. And it's possible to celebrate a flowery castle wedding.

There's a small but nice shopping street in Diez. This is the opportunity for an extensive shopping tour. Find new clothes or show in one of the stores, get a beauty treatment or a new haircut.

And due to it's special location directly at the river Lahn, there is a beautiful environment for both hikers and cyclers.

The Lahn valley is a wine-growing district since the 13th century. The preferred grape sort is Riesling which is a dry white wine. In and around Diez there are numerous vineyards which offer wine tastings. Especially in Limburg/Lahn, which is just 6 km away, there are vineyards and wine stores offering their products.

    Christmas Market

The Christmas market in Limburg/Lahn (just 6 km away from Diez) is considered one of the most beautiful ones in the region. Limburg shows many half-timbered houses in its historic city center, hence the atmosphere is a very special one. The Christmas market is opened annually between late November and late December (till after Christmas) from 10 am to 8 pm.

    River cruise

There's a high number of river cruise providers in and around diez. The valley of the River Lahn is a very beautiful one, and the round trips on the different ships are diversified and eventful. Do you prefer the adventure? Then a cruise on a raft could be the right thing for you. Enjoy the beautiful landscape around and have a perfect day on the water!

    Hiking

The Lahn hiking trail (Lahnwanderweg) is very recommendable. On a 65 km long distance between Diez and Lahnstein (here the Lahn is flowing into the Rhine) there are numerous medieval towns and castles to be found and explored. Usually the trail leads you high above the valley, hence there is a great view nearly everywhere on the track.
