    How to Get There?

      Emden can be easily reached from all German train stations. Emden train station is located directly at the ferry port of Emden. From there, it continues with the ferry or catamaran.

      You can reach Emden Außenhafen (Emden outer harbour) via the A31. Borkum is no car-free island. Guests, who do not want to take their car to the island (please reserve a place on the ferry), find numerous ample chargeable parking.

      With the East Frisian air transport GmbH (OLT), you fly in 15 minutes from airfield in Emden (directly on the A31) to Borkum.

    Why Go There?

    Borkum is the largest of the East Frisian Islands. The journey is an experience, because in the port of Borkum, the tour continues with the historic 'Borkumer Kleinbahn' – the oldest German island train.

    Your first visit at Borkum will enchant you! Borkum offers healthy, sport and fun for the whole familiy. Whether you're young or old – Borkum leaves nothing to be desired.  

    The island has its charm at any time of the year. In the summer the tourists coming to conquer the kilometre-long beaches and the shopping streets Bismarckstraße and Franz-Habich-Straße, in winter one can enjoy the calm and beauty of Borkum. 

    Besides the healthy North Sea climate, the many cultural and sporting activities contribute to the attraction of the island. Borkum is first allergy-friendly island in Europe. The climate is low in pollen and pollutants. 

    Discover the island by bicycle. Bicycles can be rented everywhere. About 120 km of cycling and hiking trails are available on Borkum. Drive to the port and watch the ferries or drink a cup of coffee at 'Café Ostland'. 

    There are numerous restaurants with maritime cuisine and a good price-performance ratio. Enjoy fish in all variations – the North Sea sends its greetings. Visit 'Omas Teestübchen' close to the train station. Tea lovers can choose your favourites from over 200 kinds of tea. Or enjoy the unique sunset in 'Rias Beach' at the beach promenade. You will never forget it!

    Local speciality

    Have a break at one of the "Milchbuden" direct at the beach – they are unique throughout Germany. Every spring they are situated and by the end of October, they disappear in the winter camp. Enyoy a cup of coffee, refreshing drinks and ice cream or the different sweet milk desserts like 'Milchreis" (milk rice) or quark with fruits.

    Adventures

    The Nordsee Kletterpark Borkum (north sea climbing park) is located behind the 'Kulturinsel' and just a few steps from the beach and from the Centre of Borkums. The climbing season starts at the end of March (depending on the weather).

    Spa & Wellness

    The 'Gezeitenland' is a health spa directly at the beach. It looks like an ocean liner and is open all year round. Relax in the sauna and enjoy the panoramic view over the sea – it is fantastic! Childs love the swimming pool area with a giant slide (75 metres). The 'Gezeitenland' is a good mix of wellness, relaxation and action.

    Events

    A topic of the year (end of August) is the Borkum Kite Festival (Drachenfest Borkum) with numerous impressive stunt kites. Every year thousands of visitors on the North Beach and the promenade, admire the traditional spectacle. Highlight of the weekend is a colourful firework.
