    Why Go There?

    Mo - Fr 9 am - 6 pm, Sa/Su 9 am - 7 pm

Exactly at the federal highway "B 39" one finds the Technical Museum in Speyer. The large Original Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) which is shown there amongst others is visible over a huge distance.

The Speyer Technical Museum consists of two large halls as well as a huge open air ground which is more than 100.000 square meters large. Here one can see Airplanes (amongst others the Boeing 747 which was already mentioned above or an Antonow An-22 which is the world's largest airplane driven by propellers), locomotives (e. g. the chinese steamer "Quan Jin" 2655) or a submarine - but also the house boat which was the home of the "Kelly Family" for many years.

More than 25.000 square meters of indoor space are presenting further highlights to the visitors: veteran cars, helicopters, fire trucks, motor-bikes, the maglev "Transrapid 04" and way more. In an own hall, which was built just a couple of years ago, one of the particular highlights can be viewed: the prototype of the sovjet Space Shuttle "Buran". With this orbital glider the former Sovjet Union arranged altogether 24 test flights to prove the flight characteristics inside the atmosphere as well as the completely remote-controlled landing.

The "Space Hall" seems to be similar to the NASA Space Museum. The affiliated Exhibition "Apollo and beyond" shows many exhibits of the space flight history, beginning in the 1960s of the last century till the ISS space station.

In the so-called "Wilhelmsbau" there are further exhibits to be viewed, for instance a collection of historic weapons, historic fashion, a collection of clocks as well as one of the largest collections of mechanical music instruments.

In the Germany-wide unique "IMAX DOME" theater the movies are projected onto a huge cupola, and the spectator has the impression to be involved directly into what's happening on the screen.
