The Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof (Karlsruhe Main Station) is connected to the ICE network, and thus, is reachable easily from all over Germany. Leave the building at the north side and take one of the streetcars which head to marketplace (look at the signposts). Nearly all lines head in this direction.
Use the highway "A5" and exit at "Karlsruhe-Durlach". From here go ahead in "Innenstadt" direction ("Innenstadt" = City Center - follow the signposts). Parking garage at the "Schlossplatz" which is just a couple of meters away from the market place. Parking fee is 1.50 € per hour/6 € per day (2013)
Between late November and christmas
At the beginning of the Advent season and up to Christmas the christmas market will take place in Karlsruhe. The market place as well as the Friedrichsplatz will gleam in feastful brightness.
All around the pyramid at the market place there is an amazing mix of smells of spices, roasted almonds, delicate bratwursts, sweet Crêpes and naturally hot spiced wine. But it's not only the physical well-being whis is satisfied here - craftspeople from all over the world offer their products here, e. g. glass, porcelain, wood, clay, leather, wool etc. Spices, tea, perfumed soap, candles or toys - all this and way more the visitor can get here.
Using the streetcar, one can go up to the gate: exit and you are right in the middle. The christmassy illumination is visible from distance.
On the Friedrichsplatz - about 5 minutes to walk from the market place, directly behind the ECE Center at the Ettlinger Tor - the visitors find, amongst further culinary delightfulnesses, the "craftspeople hut" which is engaged regularly by different craftspeople who give you the opportunity to take a glance while they are doing their job.
Furthermore here you'll find a large ice rink which invites for skating or Bavarian curling. A special eye-catcher is the large light pyramid above the fountain.
After enjoying the christmassy atmosphere you should take your time and explore the city. Karlsruhe is the city of hidden treasures and best thing, everything is within walking distance! Main attractions such as the Karlsruhe Palace, the city garden with the Zoological Garden and the fairground with the Congress Centre are very close to each other.

Find a lot of small and not so small shops directly around the market place. The "ECE-Center Ettlinger Tor" is attracting the visitors with more than 130 stores (fashion, cosmetics, accessoires, beauty, wellnes etc.) on more than 37,000 square meters.
The "Vogelbräu" in the Baumeisterstrasse (15 minutes to walk) offers self-brewed beer (seasonal specials, such as spelt beer, "Doppelbock", halloween beer or winter beer) as well as a large bill of fare.
After a walk of 3 or 4 minutes you'll reach the Karlsruhe palace which was built in the 18th century. Here you'll find the "Badisches Landesmuseum" (Badenese state museum) with permanent exhibitions in 14 chambers from prehistoric age up to the present age.
