Between late November and Christmas
In late November the area around the historic town hall as well as the surrounding streets and alleys in Gera will change again into a huge fairytale market ("Märchen" means "fairytale").
Figurines from fairytales, such as Little Red Riding Hood, The Valiant Little Taylor, Sleeping Beauty or Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are coming alive in full-size and tell their tales.
In the center of the square there is a 20 meters large spruce with nearly 8,000 LED lights - and about 100 little cottages huddle around this large christmas tree. The visitors will find a huge variety of arts and crafts, arrangements for Advent, christmas tree decorations, toys, candles and way more. It goes without saying that the pyhsical well-being is taken care of as well. Already from a distance one smells the attractive flavor of Original Thuringia Bratwurst, glogg, roasted almonds, spices or sweet Crêpes.
The entire city is gleaming in christmassy lights and colours, and Santa Clause puts in an apperance once each day and always an open ear for the worries and desires of the children. Each weekend a children theater/puppet show takes place directly in front of the large christmas spruce. And not only the children get their money's worth with christmassy music all day long.
