The Heide Park Resort Soltau is the largest theme park in Northern Germany. It is located at Lower Saxony and covers an area of 850,000 square metres. The theme park is part of the British based Merlin Entertainments and operates with the highest standards of safety.
Originally part of a wildlife park, which was closed in 1972, Heide Theme Park Soltau was opened as a small concern in 1978 but has since grown huge.
Ideal as a place for the whole family to visit, Heide Theme Park has the famous Octopus and Colossos rides as well as many more treats for anyone looking for fun and excitement. There is a small train that starts at the entrance and which runs right through the park. Take this ride and look over the whole park area before you start having fun on the rides.
The Heide Park Resort has lots of different subject themes. There is the Pirates Bay, the Wild Wild West and Transylvania. All of the themed areas have quiet and gentler rides for small children as well as the fast paced exciting rides for older kids and adults.
The park has 40 rides and plenty of live shows that will thrill and entertain everyone. The Colossus is the highest wooden roller coaster in Europe. It reaches a height of 40 metres and top speeds of 110 kilometres per hour. Anyone over the age of 12 can take a trip on the roller coaster. There is also Germany’s first wing coaster which gives a real adrenaline rush as you loop the loop at astonishing speeds.
For small children who are too young to go on the fast rides the park has the Comic Puppet Theatre, the Pixie Town Train and the Fairy Tale Ride. The Heide Park Resort is truly a place for both the very young and adults.
After your trip around the park and on the rides, you can relax at one of the many restaurants and snack bars that are around the park. However, if you wish to, you can bring your own food for a picnic.
Additionally, if you have a dog, you will be delighted to hear that dogs are welcome at the park as long as they remain on a lead.
Just under 3 kilometres from the Heide Park Resort, the Heidehotel Soltauer Hof has four stars and a wide range of amenities. Rooms are spacious and offer free Wi-Fi, a private bathroom and views over the large grounds.
Nearby there are hiking trails, cycle paths and in the hotel you can also enjoy a game of bowling. Sunbathe in the garden and then try something fresh and special from the a la carte restaurant. The staff are friendly and speak your language.
Located just 1.16 kilometres from the Heide Park resort, the Hotel Auf dem Simpel has three star accommodation with an outdoor pool, a large playground for the children and cosy rooms.
You can choose either a room or a bungalow which is very well equipped and then either cook your own breakfast or enjoy the large buffet at the hotel restaurant. After an evening meal of either German or International cuisine, sit in the beer garden and have a cool beer.
The Wolterdinger Hof is a small and charming hotel with just 24 rooms so you get a very personal service from the staff. The hotel has a traditional restaurant where you can get all kinds of dishes. Kids will love the large playground and there is also air hockey and table tennis for guests.
Only a five minute drive from Heide Park resort, the hotel rooms all have Internet access, a mini bar and a safety deposit box. English speaking staff will make you feel right at home in this cosy accommodation.
Fly into Hannover Airport which is 80 kilometres distant and the take the S-Bahn and a regional express and bus. Or, drive to the resort using the A7 motorway. Journey time by train and bus is 2 hours and forty minutes. Driving takes just under an hour.
By Train
Leave Hannover airport on a train to Langenhagen Mitte which goes every 20 minutes. Change to a train for Wolterdingen(Han) or get the erix bus. Heide Park Resort is 2.1 kilometres from the station.
By Road
Take the A352 toward Bremen and then turn on to the A7 motorway to B209/B71 in Soltau. This is exit 44. Stay on B72 to your destination. This take around an hour if the traffic is light.
See The Crazy House At Bispingen
Bispingen is a village close to Heide Park where there is the ‘crazy house’ A house that has been literally turned upside down, this is fun for both adults and children. You will be walking on the ceiling and find appliances and furniture all upside down. A very strange but fun experience.
Special Events In Summer
During the middle of June until the end of August, Soltau has concerts every Thursday evening that begin at 6.00 pm. All kinds of music is on offer including jazz, classical and folk tunes and there is a special children’s programme.
