Situated in the warehouse district in the fantastic city of Hamburg is the Hamburg Dungeon, an exhibition that combines horror, shows and scary rides.

This is the perfect place to go to learn about some of the history of Hamburg that stretches back some 600 years. If you are visiting the city and the weather is bad why not take a 90 minute trip into an attraction that will make you laugh, scream and be gripped by the ancient stories that the actors will tell.

A Long List Of Shows And Rides At Hamburg Dungeon

There are so many different shows and rides at Hamburg Dungeon and one of the first is the Elevator Of Doom. This takes you into the depths of the dungeon and you will go on a scary creaking lift that looks like it may fail!



From there you will reach the Old Library Of Dark History where you can learn all about the frequent episodes of plague and the brutal tortures that prisoners endured in days gone by.

There is a torture chamber where you can experience being tied to the chair and then proceed to the Hamburg is Burning exhibit which shows how the great fire of 1842 impacted on the lives of the citizens of Hamburg.

A Legendary Pirate And The Harbour Gangs

Klaus Störtebeker is a legendary pirate who was executed in the dungeon and you can hear all about his unique agreement with his captors when he tried to save his men.

A show featuring the gangs who smuggled stolen goods across the harbour is also an excellent feature and the actors will make sure that you realise how scary this place really is.

Real History Comes To Life

The shows and rides at the Hamburg Dungeon will give you a great time and all of them are based on real historical events so when you come face to face with the characters you will understand just how gruesome the past was in Hamburg. Not for the fainthearted or for children under 10 years of age, nevertheless, the Hamburg Dungeon is a super attraction providing thrills throughout the tour.

How To Reach Hamburg

By Air

Hamburg International Airport is only 13.5 kilometres from the centre where the Hamburg Dungeon is situated. You can travel to the city by car or by train or bus. The train takes 30 minutes and by car it is around 15/25 minutes.

By Train

The train from Hamburg airport leaves every 10 minutes and takes you to Hamburg Stadthausbrücke. The dungeon is about 800 metres from the station so you can easily walk there. Alternatively, you can take a taxi cab.

By Road

Take the B433 road from Hamburg Airport and join the ring road 2 and B4 following signs for A1/Lübeck/Berlin/Elbbrücken/Centrum). Continue on B4 to Holzbrücke and then take Mattentwiete to Kehrwieder. Total journey time is just 25 minutes if the traffic is good.
