It begins in Brilon, a town where there are some beautiful half timbered houses and a lovely town hall with a Gothic facade. Brilon is a great town and it has many other wonderful buildings so maybe take a look around before you start your trek.

Highs And Lows On The Briloner Kammweg

There is a huge difference in altitudes on the Brilon Ridge Trail. Between the highs and the lows is a height of around 800 metres. The highlights are the Hoppernkopf and the Hoher Eimberg. There are forests where you could meet some mystical figures and it has been said that there are fairies around in the dense woods.

Starting The Hike At Brilon

The hike begins in the market square at Brilon amongst the beautiful Westphalian half timbered homes. You will also see the Gothic tower of St Peter’s and St Andrew’s church (Propsteikirche St. Petrus und Andreas).

Along the route you will encounter the River Möhne and the confluence of the Rivers Rhine and Weser as well as a walk through the stunning award winning village of Bruchhausen.

If you take a small detour you can also visit the Bruchhauser Steinen (Bruchhausen Stones) which stand over 90 metres high. The highest rock is known as Bornstein and it stands at 92 metres. These rocks sit in an area of unspoiled forest where nature is at its best.

Taking The Hike In Stages

If you are a novice at hiking and 50 kilometres is too far to accomplish in one day there are organisations that will forward on your luggage to accommodation part of the way along. These can be contacted through the tourist office at Derkere Str. 10a, 59929 Brilon.

Brilon has some of the largest forest areas in Germany and this route takes you through some of the prettiest. It begins in the market place at Brion and ends at the same place taking in all these waypoints; Hiebammen Hütte – Borberg – Feuereiche – Willingen – Hoher Eimberg – Huckeshohl – Pulvermühle.
