The Alpine Hiking Trail At Bergmolchwanderweg

Hiking in the Alps is always delight and Bergmolchwanderweg, which was named after an Alpine newt, is a path that lasts for 11 kilometres and it loops around the Burg Rabenstein (Rabenstein Castle).

Located in Brandenburg, the trail is fully marked by signs which depict an Alpine newt in blue on a white background. The start of the trail is at the Naturparkzentrum (Nature Park Centre) and it first follows along the E11, which is a long distance hiking trail that runs between Porta Westfalica and Frankfurt/Oder on the border with Poland.

Outside The City Limits Of Berlin

Following along the trail, when you reach the outskirts of the city you will turn right into the Plane Valley. This has been part of the nature reserve since 1967. Here you will see beautiful birds, insects such as the famed Alpine newt and protected species like dragonflies. There are also small animals that you may come across on your hike.

Following the signs for Badeanstadt you will come to an old pool which used to be used for swimming but which is now inhabited by the newts. Keeping to the right of the shore the signs for the trail will take you in the correct direction.

A Natural Reserve In The Forest

The Bergmolchwanderweg hiking trail takes you through nature reserves and forests until you reach an old road that runs between Grubo and Rädike. Taking the gravel path to the right you will soon reach the village of Rädike. In the centre of the village there are mouflons. These are wild sheep with huge round horns and then a small street that goes uphill will take you past the campsite into the forest. As long as you stick to the distinctive blue on white trail signs you can’t go wrong.

Burg Rabenstein – A Beautiful Castle In The Trees

When you reach the Burg Rabenstein you may notice the difference in altitude. You will be 153 metres above sea level but the view is quite breathtaking.

If you continue to follow the trail it will take you back to the start at the Naturparkzentrum. The nature park also has a large playground for children so if you kids have any energy left they can expend it here.

Both children and adults will enjoy the walk and the route is not too steep and can be accomplished in around four hours.
