Bad Zwischenahn is a lovely town in Lower Saxony and is right next to the Zwischenahner Meer, a beautiful lake and the third largest in the area. Dubbed the Pearl of the Ammerland, Bad Zwischenahn makes a fantastic base for anyone who wants to discover the delights of the Lower Saxony region of Germany.

Nature, Walking And Cycling

You will find 380 kilometres of paths around the lake and it is the perfect place to enjoy walking, cycling and the stunning scenery. With an abundance of wild flowers, heaths, moors and forest to wander around, it’s is no wonder that so many people return every year to this miracle of nature.

A Floral Masterpiece

On full display in the parks around the lake there are spectacular displays of rhododendrons which bloom throughout May to September. There are nurseries where you can buy plants and flowers to take home and the traditional delicacies like Smoortaal (eel) and sumptuous local ham can be enjoyed in the many restaurants in the town.

Haus am Meer

Haus am Meer is a four star hotel with modern rooms that are beautifully furnished. Serving traditional cuisine including local specialities, the hotel has some spectacular views over the lake and is sited just 100 metres from the shore. The modern rooms all have satellite TV and you can ask for a room with a view over the lake.

Seehotel Fährhaus

If you want a hotel that is close enough to walk to the town then choose the Seehotel Fährhaus
which is situated 480 metres away. The comfortable rooms and a wellness centre with sauna, pool and hot tub makes this excellent four star accommodation and it is 6 kilometres from a golf course. Built in a traditional German style, this hotel has its own landing stage right on the lake.

Villa am Park

Just over 600 metres from the lake you will find the Villa am Park. With sumptuous furnishings, a wellness centre and offering a rich buffet breakfast, this is a four star hotel that gives all guests a friendly welcome. The terrace offers a place to relax and enjoy some fine wine and there are plenty of paths to walk around and explore the countryside.

How To Get To Bad Zwischenahn

Flying into the large airport of Bremen will take you to within 54 kilometres of Bad Zwischenahn but there are also local airports which are closer.

By Train

Regular trains from the city of Bremen run to Bad Zwischenahn which is on an inter city line, the Regio-S-Bahn. There are also daily trains from Wilhelmshaven and Oldenburg. The journey from Bremen takes around 50 minutes.

By Road

Travelling from Bremen take the motorway A1 to Ahlhorner Heide and then take the A29 for Wilhelmshaven/ Emden/Leer. At Oldenburg take the A28 motorway towards Emden/Leer. The exit numbers 8 for Zwischenahner Meer or 9 for Neuenkruge will take you directly to Bad Zwischenahn.

By Bus

The bus from Bremen to Bad Zwischenahn is a journey of just over one hour and costs around 15 euro. The buses run every hour and from Oldenburg there is a bus every 20 minutes.

Statues And Monuments

The city of Bremen has many attractions and is a great place to stand and gaze at the wonderful monuments and statues. The famous Town musicians of Bremen statue is located in front of the town hall and features animals, based on the Grimm fairytale stories, playing in a band. Touch the hooves of the donkey and you will get your wish, or so the story goes. So many people have taken this to heart that the hooves are the shiniest part of the statue.

Exploring Nature

Part of the UNESCO world heritage sites, the Wadden Sea National Park of Lower Saxony is both recreational and a great experience for those who love nature. There are hiking tours and a trip over the water to see seals, fish and other aquatic species.
