Travelling To The Altena Castle

Altena Castle is very accessible to all visitors whether you travel by train, road or intend to fly into this region of Germany.


The Deutsch Bahn trains travel to Altena from all directions and once you get there you can take the bus service which regularly runs between the wire museum, the castle and the Langer Kamp which is the free parking area in the town.

By Road

From Dortmund the A45 highway takes you to Altena and the A46 motorway which comes from Iserlohn/Ha.-Hohenlimburg will take you straight to this hidden treasure. The castle has lots of free parking.

By Air

It is just a 40 minute drive from the nearest airport which is the Dortmund Airport 21. From this airport you can also get a train to Altena Castle with a journey time of around 1.5 hours.
