The town of Ahrensburg dates back to the 13th century and is notable for the beautiful Ahrensburg Castle built around 1580 during the Renaissance period. This stunning castle has now become a symbol of the town and there are lots of activities for visitors to enjoy. Known as a water castle, the landmark building sits on an island surrounded by a moat and is now used as a museum where you can see exhibitions of delicate porcelain, paintings and beautiful furniture.



The Splendour Of A Baroque Schloss

The Schloss Ahrensburg was remodelled in the Baroque style and the museum is a great attraction. You can participate in many events and when discovering the upper floors you are provided with a pair of slippers so that the exquisite Rococo staircase and parquet floors will not be damaged. You can enjoy a personal guided tour or use one of the hand held audio guides to learn more about the history of this amazing castle.

Surrounded by spacious gardens, the Ahrensburg Castle is available as a venue for weddings and other celebrations. Wedding ceremonies are performed in either the garden hall or the library room. One of the many special events available for children is a themed birthday party that can involve dressing up in period costumes and exploring the castle. There are also handicrafts, hide and seek and fairy tale readings. Travelling To Ahrensburg Castle

Trains

There are daily train journeys from Hamburg central station using the Deutch Bahn railway. The journey takes only 20 minutes from Hamburg to Ahrensburg station and then there is a local bus to the castle.

By Road

From Hamburg you can take the A24 motorway or leave the city using the A7 motorway heading in the direction of Hannover Kassel Schweinfurt and then turn off to Ahrensburg. The castle has plenty of free parking.

Flying

Hamburg is the closest airport to Ahrensburg Castle and the journey by car from the airport is around 35 minutes. Trains also run directly from the airport every day and the line goes straight to the town of Ahrensburg.

A 25 minute drive will take you to the Duvenstedter Brook, a nature reserve that covers around 780 hectares. The second largest nature reserve of Hamburg, the park has an ancient woodland with a bog and lots of room to roam around the moorland.
