In the Alps there are lots of beautiful lakes but none as lovely as Lake Tegernsee which is one of the cleanest lakes in the mountains and the whole of Germany. A paradise for walkers and serious hikers, Lake Tegernsee has over 300 kilometres of marked trails with stunning views and a range of walking ability levels.
Jumping right out of a picture book, the mountain world of the lake is popular not just for its cleanliness but for its outstanding beauty. In addition, the trails are not just for walkers as there are many that are suitable for mountain bikes too.
If you take a look at the new path that goes around Lake Tegernsee, you will enjoy some of the most picturesque scenes in Europe. The path is 20 kilometres in length and during the summer you can take a dip in the cleanest lake in the mountains to cool off.
Bathing beaches around the lake are a good place to relax and you can also hire a boat to explore the water and discover some of the quietest and most peaceful places on earth.
There are several places that offer motor boat trips around the lake and if you take one of these you can sit back and enjoy the nature and wildlife that is in abundance. Or, hire a rowing boat or paddleboat and take yourselves around this stunning area of water.

By Air
Munich International Airport offers easy access to Lake Tegernsee. It is 86.5 kilometres away from the lake but there are good road and rail connections to take you onward to your final destination.
By Train
Every 10 minutes there is a train from Munich Airport to München Donnersbergerbrücke. This is a journey of 45 minutes. Then change for a train to Tegernsee. These run every hour and the time taken to get to the lake is 1 hour.
By Road
Driving to Lake Tegernsee from Munich airport you take the A9 motorway until the exit for München-Schwabing. Then follow B318 to your final destination at Bad Wiessee at Tegernsee. The journey takes around 1 hour.
Exploring The Mountains Near Lake Tegernsee
Take a trip to the Wallberg mountain which has a height of 1722 metres. You don’t need to climb to the top to see the spectacular views as the Wallbergbahn cable car will take you there in just 13 minutes. From the summit you can see all of the regions around the lake and the Bavarian Alps. Just remember to take your camera or smartphone to take advantage of the amazing photo opportunities.
Visit The Nature Path Along The River Weißach
Walking along the nature path at the River Weißach is a great day out for both children and adults. Along the route there are 20 different interactive stations which teach you all about the habitats of the huge variety of flora and fauna that live in and around the river. There are also some interesting facts to learn about the historical settlements in the area.
